Floodplain Mapping
Following the September 2013 flood disaster, Colorado has taken steps toward long-term planning and resiliency efforts for flooding and other natural hazards. In early 2015, Colorado’s Legislature passed a funding bill for the Colorado Hazard Mapping Program, which aims to provide a mitigation and land use framework in areas likely to be affected by future flooding, erosion, and debris flow events.
Sedgwick Countywide Risk MAP
This study is producing draft Zone A-ready floodplains for Sedgwick County and incorporated communities using two-dimensional (2D) BLE. These will be presented at the Discovery Meeting along with a Discovery Report in early 2024. The intent is to update outdated paper inventory throughout the County. Afterwards, we will kick off Phase 2 (Data Development) and proceed with detailed study areas and work through the FEMA regulatory mapping process, hoping to have final, updated mapping for areas outside of the South Platte River (which were updated in 2021 as part of CHAMP) around 2026.
