Mineral Countywide Risk MAP

As part of the original state-funded Colorado Hazard Mapping Project scope, Mineral County has been transitioned to a FEMA Risk MAP county-wide study, impacting the communities of Creede, and Unincorporated areas of the county. Mineral County currently uses paper FIRM maps that were effective in 1991. Once this study is complete, Mineral County will be updated to digital mapping with updated special flood hazard areas for Willow Creek and the Rio Grande through the entire county. In total, this consists of 3 miles of detailed (Zone AE) and 40 miles of approximate (Zone A) riverine analysis. The Creede Levee is also being evaluated in Mineral County for FEMA levee accreditation, ensuring compliance with CFR 65.10 levee regulations, to continue providing protection to the town of Creede. The Flood Risk Review meeting was held on 5/4/2021 to review draft floodplains, provide an overview of the project approach, and milestones; and discuss expectations and next steps in the process.
